The very flexible GEOCOMP system permits to work with standard signals from the rig or with RoLog's own sensors. In case the rig has for some or all parameters own sensors and provides signals for the MLU, GEOCOMP-2 and -3 are equipped with the related input circuits to read these signals and convert them into the physical units. In all other cases RoLog offers a wide range of different sensors with related mounting attachments for all applications and different types of rigs. All sensors are explosion proof and have the certificate of the authorized German testing institute.
A pressure sensor receives a signal from a liquid column, which changes its pressure linear with the position of the distance between kelly head and rotary table. Upward movements of the drill string are stored in an electronic memory and calculated back, when the bit reaches the bottom again.
The system is very stable against errors in the depth reading, due to the fact, that the sensor collects an analogue signal and possible interruptions are automatically corrected.
+/- 1 cm
On the time printer the linear movement of the drill string is recorded in analogue manner. This puts the geologist in the position, to see even the smallest drilling break within one meter, immediately when it happens. The depth printer prints the ROP as a block diagram and prints in numbers for each meter the depth, the time needed to drill the meter (minutes/meter).

On GEOCOMP-2 the actual depth is displayed in steps of 10 cm. A special display shows the rate of penetration for the last meter, cut in sections of 10 cm each.
For precise sample catching or other purposes, a depth- signal can be programmed.
